Signups for the Short August Medieval Exchange are open!

Introducing: the Short August Medieval Exchange! SAME2020 is a multifandom gift fic exchange for fanworks set during the Medieval or Early Renaissnace. "Medieval" refers to any setting between 600–1600 CE. Works do not have to be set in the Western world; any setting anywhere in the world during this time period qualifies for this exchange.


This exchange accepts:

• actual-facts medieval settings
• idealized and romanticized medieval settings
• fantasy-adjacent sword & sorcery settings (like DragonHeart or Dragonslayer)
• timeless fantasy that are arguably influenced by Medieval thinking (Tolkien, the Pre-Raphaelites)
• Medieval dream allegory (Piers Plowman)
• classic epics written during this period (Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Tale of Genji, Beowulf)
• and Fantasy/Medieval/Renaissance AUs of fandoms set in other time periods.

This exchange matches on fic only. Signed-up participants will create a gift fic of a minimum of 600 words. Treats are always welcome, and treaters are encouraged to submit in other mediums (art, podfics, playlists). Recipients are encouraged to indicate that they're interested in other medium in their signup details.

Much like in medieval canons themselves, historical accuracy is not a requirement for gifts! We encourage any amount of research you might like to do into the time period for that extra-special historical flavor, but it is not expected that you or your author will do so.
