Dimension Travel Exchange

Dimension travel is a trope where a character leaves their usual dimension and goes to a place that's significantly different from the dimension they just left! It's a common feature of crossover fics, isekai, and scifi/fantasy in general.

"Significantly different" is in the eye of the beholder and can encompass anything from a simple canon-divergent alternate timeline, to a universe where everyone has wings, to a place where the very laws of nature are different! To fit the trope (and thus the point of this flash exchange!) things in the new place should be different in a way that can't be or isn't explained as time travel, a magic curse, having been in a coma for a while, being caught in an illusion, or being dead and in the literal actual afterlife.

Schedule:

• Nominations/Sign ups: December 27th-31st
• Creation period: January 1st-January 7th
• Reveals: January 7th
• Author reveals: January 10th?

(Subject to some slight changing around and decisions about what time exactly things will close, of course; I will take feedback about the schedule but it does in part depend on my actual schedule!)

Matching, Minimums, & Misc.

Participants will need three fandoms to sign up. We will match on fandom, character/relationship, and freeform. Do artists want to join? Let us know and we'll do medium too. All works will need to involve/focus on dimension travel.

We have not decided a minimum yet and would welcome input below. 300 words or 500 words, probably? Or do people want 1k? It is a whole week to write!

Original Works and RPF (of 18+ people famous in their own right etc) will be allowed.

Pinch Hits will be published on Dreamwidth. No one will be guaranteed a gift, but we'll do our very best.

Early Freeform Nominations

We were very excited about this exchange and wanted to capture all of our ideas now while the excitement was fresh! So I've already made the tagset and you can nominate 20 freeforms to it over the weekend. When real noms/sign ups open, we'll reset everyone's nom pages so you'll be able to nominate more and also, you know, fandoms and relationships.

Freeform Guidelines & Tips:

• All freeforms should be directly and unambiguously related to one dimension interacting with a different dimension.
  • So you can't have "Mutually Pining" but you can have "Mutual Pining While Trapped In Horrible Alternate Universe"
• You can nominate fandom-specific freeforms; preface them with the fandom name/abbreviation like "ASOIAF:" or "Naruto:"
  • Some tags in the tagset currently use a different format; we'll clean that up later.
• You can nominate fusions with canons that involve significant amounts of canonical dimension travel; please preface these tags with "Fusion" as in "Fusion - Sliders"
  • For the purposes of this exchange it's assumed that your fusion will both place requested characters into the requested fusion's setting and center on dimension travel.
• You can nominate tags asking for dimension travel using the mechanics of canonical dimension travel by putting "Style -" in front of the canon's name as in "Style - Sliders"
  • Requesting a "Style -" tag assumes you will use the requested dimension travel mechanic but fit it with the requested fandom's worldbuilding as much as possible.

After I close the tagset to early freeform nominations I will make a post here with some tagset clean up stuff, including listing any freeforms I've had to reject and why so that nominators can have a chance to rephrase them.
